Ongoing efforts are being undertaken to resolve the funding issues with the Cave-In-Rock Ferry, a transportation connector between Kentucky 91 and Illinois Route 1. Currently, ferry operators are preparing to close the ferry down until appropriate funding can be found to cover increased regulation and staffing costs.
State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) issued the following statement concerning the ongoing concerns with funding for the Cave-in-Rock Ferry:
“The funding of the Cave-In-Rock ferry is a joint funding obligation between Illinois and Kentucky, with Illinois having passed a Fiscal Year 2019 budget that includes increased funding for this purpose,” said Senator Fowler. “I would urge the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to work with the ferry operators to make certain that we see a quick resolution to this issue, ensuring that the ferry remains in operation.”
