State Senator Dale Fowler has released the below statement regarding the implementation of no cash bail set to take effect on Monday, September 18:
“I find it highly unfortunate that in the 2.5 years since the passing of the SAFE-T Act, the Majority Party couldn’t find an appropriate funding solution to fill the financial gaps this law will create in our judicial system and our courts’ ability to function. This burden will now likely be left up to property taxpayers to fund. This problem will be further exacerbated across my district as our smaller counties rely on this revenue stream ultimately costing local governments across the 59th District millions of dollars. I will continue to work for solutions as we prepare to return to Springfield next month so taxpayers aren’t left with another bill they can’t afford.”
