State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) released the following statement regarding the passing of former President Jimmy Carter on Dec. 29, 2024.

“My heart goes out to the family and many friends and colleagues of former President Jimmy Carter. I believe that President Carter has left behind a legacy of service and charity that should be emulated by all Americans, regardless of their political affiliation. He was a champion for the goal of providing affordable, decent housing for all, particularly with his tireless advocacy and work for Habitat for Humanity. He also dedicated countless hours to international efforts to eliminate debilitating diseases from remote villages, end the practice of child brides, and provide food for starving people across the globe.

“His legacy has been particularly inspiring to myself and my own charitable efforts to feed and clothe needy families in Southern Illinois. I believe we should all try our best every day to emulate President Carter’s dedication to serving the needy.”
