FOWLER WORKING TOWARDS TO NEW TRAFFIC LIGHT IN HARRISBURG TO IMPROVE SAFETY

SPRINGFIELD, IL –
As a result of an uptick in economic activity and the prospect of future development in Harrisburg, an increase in traffic accidents at a busy intersection prompted State Sen. Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) to request an additional traffic signal.

“Shortly after I took office in January, I made a request to the Illinois Department of Transportation asking them to restudy the intersection of Illinois 13 and Poplar Street in Harrisburg,” Fowler said. “We have been fortunate in Saline County to see increased economic opportunities, but I have had concerns about an increasing number of accidents.”

During his previous tenure as the Mayor of Harrisburg, Fowler was hoping the agency would reconsider their initial decision to not locate a traffic signal light at the intersection.

Under the newest study by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Harrisburg will be slated for new signals at the busy intersection, in the coming months.

“I want to thank the IDOT for their proactive stance to fix the situation and ensure better traffic safety for local residents and area business patrons. This traffic signal will help enhance future economic efforts in Saline County,” Fowler concluded.
